Sneakernet is a term for transferring files on a computer in a manner that circumvents Internet (or Intranet) connection.

Alot of times, sneakernet can involve the repurposing of computer storage media, such as older floppy disks, older hard drives being treated as external hard drives. However, one disadvantage with repurposing older storage media, compared to buying new storage media, is that the storage media has limitations concerning data storage capacity, as well as the fact that hard drives that are 10 years older than flash memory with similar capacity suffer from having less durability (due to moving parts, compared to flash memory which is solid-state) and practicality (due to being bulkier in size).
